I remember when I first heard that my church was supporting Scarlet Hope. The concept of a ministry whose main focus was sharing the love of Jesus Christ with women in the Adult Entertainment Industry seemed odd at best. However, I thought it was pretty cool that teams from various churches cooked meals for these women and then outreach workers delivered it to them at their strip clubs. Never did I think that I would feel God move me to eventually become the team leader for the Westport Road Baptist Church Cooking Team, and then that He would tell me that I needed to be one of the deliverers!

Now that I’ve been on the outreach team for over a year, I can say with no hesitation that God knew that I would love serving this ministry in this way. Every two weeks, I go to the same club to see women that I absolutely love and adore. We talk about their kids, their dreams, their pasts, and, when God opens a door, we talk about having a relationship with Jesus Christ. Sometimes I’m asked to pray for a difficult relationship, the end to an addiction, a positive outcome of an upcoming custody hearing, healing from an illness that’s befallen a loved one, or just for guidance. I consider those times a sacred honor to lift these requests to God.

I’m the first to admit that I’m not great at flat-out witnessing and sharing the gospel – the words just don’t fall off my tongue like they do for some of my fellow outreach workers. I often get home at 1:30am on Friday morning and beat myself up for not trying harder to bring Jesus into the conversation. But, I remind myself that my goal each night is to show each and every woman there the love of Jesus Christ and that I consider it a privilege to serve them and spend time with them. With each plate of food that I dish out, I know that the young woman I am serving knows that someone cared enough for her to take the time and effort to prepare a meal for her. As Paul says in Ephesians 5:2, “And live a life of love just as Christ loved and gave Himself for us.”

My goal is to do what Paul says and live a life of love like Christ.   I thank Scarlet Hope for giving me this unique opportunity to do just that.
