Last week we had our biggest outreach event of the year. It’s a special event we host to connect women we meet in the clubs to our ministry and Bible study. We call it our Spa and Pampering Night!
Many of the women we meet in the clubs will say hello and receive the food we bring with gratitude. Some will even open up a little about their lives and what they believe. Still, many times when we ask them to join us for Bible study or meet us outside of their work for coffee, they are hesitant. Whether it’s fear, shame, or just a hectic life, forming a deeper connection takes time.
To show women even more how much Jesus loves them and how much we want to hang out with them, we decided to use hair stylists and eye brow waxing. We recruit nail artists and people to do henna tattoos as well as facials and make overs. We offer all these things to demonstrate the extravagance of God’s love. We do it in hopes to tear down walls so that relationships can be built and the Gospel can be shared.
For weeks in advance we passed out flyers and spread the word about this event. All of the guests were full of excitement as they arrived. Many of our ladies already attending our Bible study program invited old friends and used the night to show them the community they are a part of. Some of the ladies said it was the first time they’ve had a haircut in over a year. One guest asked a volunteer, “Why is it that I’ve just met all of you and still I feel more loved by you than I’ve ever felt in my life?”
It was our hope that God’s love would be the thread interwoven throughout all of it. We were blessed to have Pastor Dave Stone share an encouraging word to our guests. He, too, shared about how great God’s love was for them. He talked about their value and purpose in Christ. And praise the Lord that 5 ladies who visited the Spa Night also returned this week to attend our weekly Bible study. When an outreach volunteer served this week in a club, one of the women there who came to our spa night told the volunteer that it was the best night of her life!
We pray all that God did in the lives of each guest will continue to produce fruit!
