Some people have said to us “I don’t think I could ever go into a strip club and talk to a dancer.” We know each of us are called to serve God’s kingdom in different ways. We also know that it’s only by Christ’s power that the door is opened for us to share the gospel to those in the sex industry. We can reach out to others only because God went so far as to lay down His own life to reconcile us to Him. Following His example is how He built His kingdom.
We know that if not for God’s grace, each of us would be in a similar place as any sex industry worker. We would be living in darkness and self-sufficiency. This breaks down any division between us! Christ’s sacrifice saved and transformed us. This compels us to go! We want to lay down our lives for others to know Him. His sacrifice empowers us to serve.
Our staff recently studied the book Humility: True Greatness by C.J. Mahaney. This passage stood out to us.
“What a powerful death! The cross ransoms, the cross liberates, the cross transforms! So make it your aim and lifelong habit, when you see someone who’s serving, to be reminded of the sacrifice of the Savior, for apart from His sacrifice there is no serving. True greatness is attained only by emulating the Savior’s example- and made possible only by the Savior’s sacrifice.” (page 58)
We hope that all those who serve with Scarlet Hope will remember how and why they are able to serve. We also hope that everyone who observes the work of Scarlet Hope will see in it the sacrifice of Jesus and be in awe of Him!
