How Prayer, Technology, and Compassion Come Together to Reach Women in Need
When people hear about Scarlet Hope, many imagine women handing out roses in strip clubs, offering a meal, a hug, or a word of encouragement. And that still happens every single week. But there’s another mission field growing rapidly—a digital one. Through Digital Outreach, Scarlet Hope volunteers are reaching women online with the love of Christ, often before anyone else ever has.
So what does it actually look like to serve as a Digital Outreach Volunteer? Here’s a glimpse into one day on the frontlines of this life-changing work.
It Starts with Prayer
Before the first message is sent, we pray.
Each campaign begins by covering the day, the women, and our messages in prayer. We ask God to go before us—to soften hearts, to open eyes, and to make divine appointments possible even through a text screen. Volunteers often spend their own time before the team meets, praying intentionally for the city we’re reaching and the women God has already chosen to encounter that day.
We believe the Holy Spirit works powerfully through prayer—and we never want to rely on our own words alone.
Gathering as a Team
After personal prayer, our volunteers gather together—either virtually or in person—for a time of encouragement, reflection, and spiritual preparation.
We open with a devotional or a passage from Scripture that reminds us why we’re here. We might meditate on verses like:
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” – John 1:5
During this time, we also share updates, celebrate stories from previous campaigns, and build one another up before stepping into the mission together. Volunteers may come from different backgrounds, but in that moment, we’re unified in one goal: to bring light to the dark corners of our cities.
Launching the Campaign
Once our hearts are prepared, the technical part of Digital Outreach begins.
Using a secure platform, we send out hundreds of individualized text messages to women who are being advertised online for sex. These women may be trafficked, exploited, or simply surviving in an industry that often robs them of dignity, safety, and worth.
Our messages are gentle and relational, often saying something like:
“Hi! You may not know me, but I just wanted to reach out and say you are loved, seen, and created with a purpose. If you ever want to talk or need anything, I’m here.”
From the moment we press “send,” we know God is at work.
Watching the Stories Come In
One of the most sacred parts of Digital Outreach is when replies start coming in.
Some are cautious. Some are deeply emotional. Some just say “thank you.” And others ask for help.
“How did you know I needed to hear this today?”
“No one’s ever told me I have value.”
“Can you really help me get out?”
“I’m scared. I don’t know what to do.”
Each response is met with care and compassion. Volunteers are trained to listen, offer truth, and gently invite women to take a step forward. For many women, this is the first time they’ve ever experienced unconditional kindness—especially from a stranger.
Offering Support and Resources
When a woman is ready to take the next step, the volunteer team doesn’t just leave her there. We walk with her.
Scarlet Hope’s national and local network of partners allows us to connect women to emergency housing, transportation, addiction recovery programs, pregnancy care, trauma-informed counseling, and more.
Whether she needs a safe place to sleep, someone to talk to, or help finding a job, we respond quickly—with dignity and love. And when a woman is ready to meet in person, we make that happen too.
How Technology Opens the Door
Before digital outreach, our efforts were primarily focused on clubs—going where women worked and building relationships face to face. But now, much of the adult industry has shifted online. Exploitation, trafficking, and survival sex are happening behind screens, in secret hotel rooms, and through online ads.
Digital Outreach meets women right where they are.
Through the power of technology, we can reach thousands of women in a single evening. We can offer hope in moments of deep darkness. And we can build bridges into real-life community and care.
Why It Matters
Being a digital outreach volunteer means showing up with a faithful heart and open hands.
It means not always seeing the fruit right away—but trusting that seeds are being planted.
It means celebrating the one woman who responds out of a hundred who don’t.
It means being ready—whether the woman just needs prayer, a conversation, or a full rescue plan.
Most of all, it means believing that Jesus sees every single one of these women—and that we get to be part of His rescue mission.
You Can Make a Difference
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be part of a ministry that reaches women in the shadows, this is it. Simple words. Bold prayer. Compassionate follow-up. Powerful outcomes.
