Meet Dr. Karen Hutcheson, Scarlet Hope’s Director of Discipleship. After receiving a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University, Dr. Karen went to Spalding University where she received a master’s and doctorate in clinical psychology.
“At first glance, it might appear confusing to have a secularly trained psychologist on staff at a ministry,” says Dr. Karen. “I am a licensed psychologist, but first and foremost, I love Jesus.”
Dr. Karen’s role as the Director of Discipleship will focus on applying her skills, knowledge, and expertise related to trauma, healthy relationships, and faith development. She will also oversee and develop the Discipleship Program to care holistically for women and children participating in the program.
“I am helping to ensure that our mission is Christ-centered and trauma-informed and ultimately seeks to model and teach women in the adult entertainment industry truths about God’s Word,” says Dr. Karen.
Before Dr. Karen was called to work at Scarlet Hope, she and her family lived and served in Uganda, where her husband provided pastoral training for Ugandan men and she provided missionary member care training for Ugandan social workers and counselors as well as developmental and trauma-informed training for ministries and NGO’s.
When asked what she is most excited about for her new job at Scarlet Hope, Dr. Karen replies that she is most excited about joining a phenomenal team of women on staff who are on mission to share the hope of Jesus.
She says, “My role is a long prayed for and desired opportunity to use the skills and knowledge that God has provided me in a Christ-centered ministry. It is a really beautiful opportunity that I do not take lightly.”
When Dr. Karen isn’t working she enjoys being outside with her husband and four children, riding bikes and playing croquet.
