This past Saturday Scarlet Hope hosted our first annual Women’s Tea as an opportunity to raise awareness for Human Trafficking. The event, held at the Hurstbourne Country Club, had over 150 participants.
Our guest speaker was Brittany Thomas. Brittany has done a vast amount of research on human trafficking, and specifically trafficking that occurs in Kentucky. She shared stories and educated us on how to better understand and respond to the issue. She told our guests, “It’s time to stop reading statistics and start changing them.”
We also had one of the ladies of Scarlet Hope give her testimony on how human trafficking has affected her and her family. Her story is one of sorrow and pain, but also one of restoration and redemption. We are extremely grateful to this beautiful young woman for being willing to be vulnerable and to share her story with our guests.
Our tea was planned with the intentions of raising awareness about human trafficking, and that’s exactly what we did. We had a great response from our guests and had so many new people wanting to become further involved with Scarlet Hope.
The biggest takeaway for all of us in attendance was this: it’s one thing to attend an event and become fired up about a problem; it’s another thing to act on the growing flame within you and put the thought to action. We are so thankful that many of our guests took what our speakers said to heart and are putting it to action. They are choosing to stop reading the statistics and start changing them.
