“The more difficult task is to address the thousands of websites offering sex for sale everywhere, in every town in America. Because of the constantly growing number of criminals using the internet to sell human beings, it has become extremely easy for anyone to go online and buy someone for sex. In fact, the internet is now a virtual mall for selling young women and men.”

The time we live in has been termed the “Information Age” aka “Digital Revolution,” or “Technology Revolution.” There is no doubt this technology revolution has changed every part of the world we live in. It’s the age where the world is at our fingertips and the Internet makes everything accessible. It’s no surprise, then, that this age has also revolutionized the world’s oldest profession: prostitution. Revenue from advertising ALONE of U.S. online prostitution totaled $45 million in 2013. Most of the $45 million generated – 82.3% – has been generated by Backpage.com, a general classifieds site that has succeeded Craigslist as the nation’s leading publisher of online prostitution advertising.

Because the Internet is the primary way we do anything these days, it makes sense that it is also the primary means of human trafficking and prostitution. It’s a virtual “red light district.” The ads portray willing women who are operating out of their own free choice, but most often the ads are written by pimps and traffickers who are in complete control of the women in the ads. Today, I’m asking you to pray for the women trapped in this form of slavery.
